FREDSON PAIXAO ACADEMY
A place for children ages 3 to 12 to build confidence, body awareness, discipline, and trust—without needing to be the loudest person in the room.
Classes are taught with attention to age, experience, and the person in front of us. We will help your child settle into the room.
Listening, respect, control, and care for training partners are part of what children practice here.
Kids classes meet Monday through Friday, in two groups: ages 3 to 7 and ages 8 to 12. Students 13 to 17 train in the adult classes with a parent’s or legal guardian’s permission.
Children train with children near their own age. Teens train with the adults.
The youngest group. Classes are taught with attention to age, experience, and the person in front of us, and we will help your child settle into the room.
The older kids group. Listening, respect, control, and care for training partners are part of what children practice here, alongside the technique.
Students 13 to 17 train in the adult classes with a parent’s or legal guardian’s permission, in the same gi and no-gi rhythm as the adults.
Pick a kids class time and your child is booked. There is no approval step and no call back to wait for; the free week of group classes begins with that first class.
Kids Jiu-Jitsu meets 5:00–6:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 4:30–5:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. Book any listed class up to two weeks ahead.
The weekly scheduleComfortable athletic clothing, water, and a willingness to learn. Loaner gis are available in limited sizes and quantities; request one when you book.
You are welcome to observe kids classes. We recommend staying to watch when your child is getting started.
Park in any space that is not marked reserved, and enter through the gate on the north side of the building.
Directions to the AcademyChildren here practice staying calm with a partner’s weight on them, holding a position without hurting anyone, and speaking up when something is wrong. That is what we mean by confidence: not volume, but composure. We cannot promise what the world will put in front of your child. We can give them a place to practice meeting it with control, respect, and a steady voice, and the habit of asking a coach or a parent for help when they need it.
Coach Michael Nelson leads the kids classes. Master Fredson Paixão teaches alongside him, Jesse Arellano, and Jason Bethea. Fredson is a sixth-degree black belt who is actively involved in instruction, not a name attached to a building.

The greatest technique I’ll ever teach isn’t a submission—
it’s confidence.
